The Consort

The Consort is the primary performing ensemble of Good Moves and features dedicated pre-professional dancers. Its repertory features works by both local and national choreographers and includes historic reconstructions, ballet and modern works.

Good Moves’ work has been recognized both locally and nationally with invitations to dance by the Modern Atlanta Dance Festival and The American Dance Festival at Duke University and with support from The Georgia Council for the Arts, the Fulton County Arts Council and The City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs. Good Moves dancers find success beyond Good Moves at conservatories such as The Juilliard School and The Boston Conservatory.

Dancers are asked to join the Consort by invitation. If a dancer is interested in working with the Consort, we ask that they attend classes and spend some time learning repertory. If the directors see a commitment to the work, dancers are cast. To do the level of repertory dancers are usually in their teens and take, three to five technique classes and rehearse eight hours per week.

The Consort also has a Consort Apprentice program for younger dancers. These dancer, seven years or older, are again invited to work the Consort. Minimally, they are expected to take two classes per week with Ed Source and rehearse every other weekend.

The Consort’s calendar runs year round. The axis for the season is the fall repertory concert in late November at 7 Stages. Additionally, there are lecture demonstrations, festival performances, in-studio showings and liturgical performances. Summer takes the Consort to study with the Limón Dance Company, continuing an over ten-year relationship with this icon of American modern dance.

Consort members pay monthly dues from August through May. This fee for the 2009/2010 Season is $150 and includes participation in classes, rehearsals, performances and workshops. Financial assistance and scholarships are available by application.
